2015. Ceremonial releases of Danaus plexippus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae, Danainae) in the Iberian Peninsula, the Balearic Islands and Cyprus: Implications for biogeography, potential for colonisation and a provisional listing of Asclepiadoideae from these regions.

Hi Maties

As you know, I'm no botanist, but the closest match I can make would be an escape from cultivation, Tragopogon porrifolius L., which is Salsify in English (I believe Barba de cabra in Catalan). It has an edible root.
Best wishes

Hi Maties

A great photo (as usual).

This was one of the species that I was looking for during my last trip - obviously I was too early! A few years ago there was a large area of the larval foodplant - Gomphocarpus fruticosus - growing on the back of the beach on the right where the torrente meets the sea. During my last visit I could find no plants there, possibly linked to this:

Some 'Papallona tigre' were also seen earlier this year by a young British holidaymaker near the Belle Vue Club complex in Alcudia. I'll try and find the dates for Samuel.

Best wishes

Hi Xavi

Once again, apologies for the English.

I noticed that you refer (above) to Brachythemis leucosticta. I don't know if this was in relation to the Balearic Islands fauna or to mainland Spain but are you aware that this species has now been split and the species in Europe (and most of population in northern Africa) should now be referred to as Brachythemis impartita (Dijkstra, K.-D. B. & Matushkina, N. 2009. Kindred spirits: "Brachythemis leucosticta", Africa's most familiar dragonfly, consists of two species (Odonata: Libellulidae) INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ODONATOLOGY  Volume: 12   Issue: 2   Pages: 237-256).

Hola Maties.
¿Has encontrado alguno?  Saludos.

Hi Maties
Apologies (as always) for the English.
Although there are 7 species of Gomphidae recorded from mainland Spain, I don't believe that any have been recorded from the Balearic Islands. There's a website that I tried to access but it is not available at the moment. Once it is running again I can check if there have been any recent publications.
Best wishes
