The GOB asks the Govern not
to continue with the Parc BIT project (4/1/2000)
According to the GOB, the decision of the Balearic
Government to reduce the area of Son Espanyol affected by the
Parc BIT represents a completely insufficient decision. The ecological
association things that computers and telematic technologies perfectly
permits a decentralisation and that it is not necessary to concentrate
in a particular area the economic activities related to these
new technologies. At the same time that state that for certain
central services it would have been enough to construct some new
buildings in existing urban areas, such as industrial or service
estates.
The GOB declares in its press release that the Parc BIT represents a bad representative example, as well as an economic model that continues to back the consumption of territory and natural resources; it states that the public expense that the Parc BIT represents is not justified either socially or economically, or for the environment.
The GOB ends by asking the new Government not to continue with the Parc BIT and to give up continuing to construct more buildings and new infrastructure.
