Chalets and apartaments swamp
the coastline and rustic land of Andratx (25/1/2000)
According to the GOB, the realestate activity in
the area of Andratx is reaching worrying levels and are causing
an increase in the residential and tourist offer, an insoportable
pressure on natural resources and a very strong impact on the
scenery and territory. This rea-estate growth is affecting a large
part of the municipal area, including rustic land, and is centred
on the construction of chalets, apartments and multifamily homes.
The areas where this is most obvious are Camp de Mar and Biniorella,
because of the golf course, Port d'Andratx, including the urbanisations
of Montport and Can Borrás; Cala Moragues, the rustic land
in general and other areas such as La Mola, Cala Marmacen, Sant
Elm, Sa Coma Calenta...
According to the ecological organisation, this policy is insportable because of the saturation of residential offer, the exaggerated consumption of territory, the brutal agression of the countryside, the large consumption of drinking water, the constant growth of energy consumption and the increase in the production of waste. They think that the Building Legislation by Subsidiary Norms is not the solution as they foresee a population capacity of 44,450 inhabitants, to which the capacity for growth of rustic land must be added.
The GOB think that it is essential to give new dimensions to the land available for urbanisations, both in the Port and in Camp de Mar, Cala Llamp, La Mola, Cala Moragues, Sant Elm, etc., eliminating the approved land in the poligon 18, the poligon 31 (S'Almudaina) and Cala Moragues. They also ask for the elimination of the car park in the ANEI of Es Saluet in Port d'Andratx, for the upper part of the Plan for Biniorella in Camp de Mar to become rustic land, to declassify those areas that have not been built on yet in Sant Elm and to avoid the continuing urbanisation of rustic land in Andratx.
"The present situation of building
planning in Andratx is chaotic and it is essential to put a brake
on this growth immediately so as not to mortgage the future of
this municipality."
