The GOB proposes that the arrival
point for the gas pipe line should be the Dique del Oeste (12/12/2000)
The great proposal of the Energy Plan is the incorporation
of natural gas in the Balearics via a gas pipe line connected
to the Mainland. The gas will be used in the new power stations
to substitute fuel and diesel, and will also be used for domestic
use, via a network of pipes that will link the main towns of the
island.
According to the GOB, Sant Joan de Déu is not the best arrival point for the gas pipe line, and even less for the new power station. The ecological organisation considers that the area of Coll d'en Rabassa and Can Pastilla has become a degraded area due to the conflictive and contaminating points, such as the airport, fuel tanks, power station, a giant supermarket, the macro-sewage plant, etc.
The GOB proposes as an alternative that
the arrival point for the gas pipe line should be the Dique del
Oeste quay, and that the distribution should be carried out via
underground pipes to the destination in the present power stations
and the towns of the island. At the same time, the ecological
association thinks that there is no justification for keeping
the Sant Joan de Deu power station working, and proposes its dismantling
as opposed to what is contemplated in the Energy Plan: the substitution
of the present power station for one powered by gas turbines.
