Opening of a road in the ANEI of Son Real (22/2/2001)

The GOB has denounced before the Town Council of Santa Margalida and the Balearic Department of Environment the opening of a road within the Natural Area of Special Interest known as an ANEI in Son Real.

The road, approximately 400 metres long, starts from the houses of Hort de Son Serra and runs parallel to the Son Real stream, ascending the slope. It affects an area of brush land covered in pinetrees. The environmental impact of this is very negative, as it affects one of the most important ecological areas on Mallorca. The GOB has requested in its complaint, a sanction for those responsible and for the area to be returned to its original state. At the same time it has asked the Department to control this area more, since there is other important negative impact such as the destruction of the dune area due to the circulation of jeeps and motorbikes.
