The GOB sent last May 29
to all the Parliamentary Groups of the Balearics a request for the reincorporation
within the Law of Natural Spaces (LEN) those areas that in 1992 were excluded
from the area of protection.
In their press release the GOB makes special reference to the cases of Son Muntaner
and Son Quint, in the municipality of Palma, were at present certain golf course
projects, urbanisations and hotels are being planned in areas that in 1991 were
considered by the LEN to be Natural Areas of Special Interest (ANEI) and now
are not.
In 1991 the Balearic Parliament approved the LEN. The following year, the Government of the ex-president Gabriel Cañellas, with a new parliamentary majority, approved a reform to this Law, lowering the degree of protection of the ANEI and the Rural Areas of Scenic Interest (ARIP) in the Pitiüses (Ibiza and Formentera) and leaving certain areas of the Balearics without protection in which golf courses or urbanisations were planned such as on Mallorca: Felanitx (Es Turó), Sa Pobla (Gaieta Gran), Palma (Son Quint, Son Muntaner, Son Vida and Son Puigdorfila) and Calvià (Cala Falcó).
