Following the call by the
Plataforma per la Democràcia i la Globalització Social, over 20,000
people of all ages demonstrated again in the streets of Palma last Saturday
against the war in Iraq. A group of xeremiers and a banner with the slogan "No
a la guerra imperialista" led the demonstration that went peacefully from
the Plaza de España to the Paseo del Born, where the Jamila Laaroussi
read the unitarian manifest against the war three times so that it could be
heard by everybody.
This was fourth demonstration organised by the Plataforma per la Democràcia
i la Globalització Social against the armed attack. The first was on
February 15 with over 40,000 people, the second took place on March 15 with
some 20,000 participants and the third was held on March 20, coinciding with
the beginning of the war, and was followed by 15,000 persons.
